Full Speed Ahead with the Autoship System
Autoship Systems Corporation (ASC) of Vancouver, Canada is pleased to announce the launching of M/V Galatea. Built for the ARPA (Environmental Protection Agency for the Sicily Region), this 24m research vessel was designed and built using ASC’s entire CAD/CAM software suite.

The ASC CAD/CAM suite includes a number of integrated programs, each of which performs specific functions for vessel design and construction. The suite features Autoship (hull and superstructure design), Autohydro (stability & strength calculations), Autostructure (internal structural design), Production Manager (nesting & stock management), Autopower (resistance and powering prediction) and Autoplate (plate design, expansion and management system).
M/V Galatea was designed by ASC’s Italian Dealer, Stefano Thermes of NAVALIA and built by Cantiere Megaride, also of Italy. This research vessel is on duty 24/7 touring from Italy to North Africa conducting coastal water quality analysis, bottom coring, ROV operations and has a wet and dry onboard laboratory. The vessel was designed and built using the full Autoship CAD/CAM suite from preliminary design through to detailed construction drawings, parts nesting and cutting. The hull is Marine Grade Aluminum.
M/V Galatea and her sister vessel M/V Helios, launched two years ago, were ranked first on two successive tender bids held by the Italian Government amongst first class competition because of their innovative design, scope, fulfillment, superior overall performance and economical maintenance. It will be used as an example for future vessels of this type being built in the Mediterranean area.
In 2010 Autoship Systems Corporation of Vancouver, Canada will mark their 30 year anniversary of providing leading-edge CAD/CAM software for vessel design and construction, on-board strength and stability monitoring and customized load planning. For more information email info@autoship.com.
