Colombo Dockyard Selects
the Autoship System
Autoship Systems Corporation (ASC) of Vancouver, Canada
a leading supplier of marine engineering software announces
that Colombo Dockyard of Sri Lanka has implemented 'The
AutoSHIP WORKS Package' which will allow them take
a new project through the complete design spiral - from
hull lines through to nesting parts. The Autoship Systems
Corporation is the #1 supplier of marine CAD/CAM programs
to Tier II shipyards and leading naval architectures world-wide.
Colombo Dockyard PLC established its operations in 1974
and is now Sri Lanka's largest engineering facility
leading in the business of ship repairs, shipbuilding,
and offshore engineering. In 1993, collaboration was
made with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd of Japan, a medium
scale ship builder. The exchange of technology and the
sharing of expertise have served to further enhanced
Colombo Dockyard's engineering capabilities.
Colombo Dockyard shipbuilding activities, which commenced
with the construction of small Tug Boats, medium sized
Speed Boats and barges, have now been transformed into
a major line of business.
Colombo Dockyard's ability to manufacture diverse vessels,
meeting the stringent requirements stipulated by International
Classification Societies, while surpassing the expectations
of its clientele has established a niche market of a
range of customized vessels. Construction of aluminum
hull vessels is one of their specialties. They have
built many types of vessels including ultra fast crafts,
patrol crafts, and coastal surveillance vessels.
Currently, its order book extends to 2009/2010 with
many new constructions such as, anchor handlers &
supply vessels, passenger vessels etc. It is expected
that the use of the Autoship System will shorten the
time used for engineering on these projects, allowing
Colombo Dockyard to easier meet their delivery schedules.
