Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) has been using several copies of Autohydro since 1993 for classified navy submarine design work. The engineering department was tasked to find a program on the market that was the fastest and easiest to use for tank generation, and found that Autohydro's Modelmaker provided the best fit everytime. The real-time Windows environment and Autohydro's Modelmaker was chosen as one of the software's strongest point. NNS found that once a model is inputted the features available, allowed them to do approximately six man-months of work in one week.

As the author of the NNS evaluation report stated: "The gem of the package is the Modelmaker's ability to take a box and fit it internal to any one shape and external to several others. This makes tank generation (an otherwise tedious job) one of the simplest operations in the model construction process."

Multiple iterations were run on a series of tank loading conditions, with each iteration taking on average - 15 minutes. Results were verified to within 6%.

The new installation of Autoship System programs at NNS will be used for new commercial work at NNS.
